In a pioneering example of renewing, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) revitalized an entire cruise ship within six weeks this summer. This project was carried out on board the M/S Monarch of the Seas, a 12-year-old French made vessel, assigned for US west-coast operation in Los Angeles. Ship owner selected ALMACO to implement the majority of project areas. ALMACO delivered total turn-key deliveries for seven project areas, starting from feasibility studies and project engineering. Additionally, ALMACO also participated in ship-wide upgrades for computer network and phone (PBX) system. The work was completed inpart during sailing and during the dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas shipyard.

ALMACO refurbished all the 1178 staterooms on the vessel including bathrooms, ranging from the Royal Suite to F class staterooms. As a result, the ship offers a fresh stateroom and bathroom outlook for west coast passengers. Alongside cabin area refurbishment, ALMACO also gave a new look for cabin corridors and elevator landing areas. RCI’s casual dining restaurant concept, the Windjammer, went through a total transformation. The old two deck high, partly open deck restaurant area, was converted into a total indoor restaurant with the mixture of the latest Voyager class concepts, like the orientally styled Jade restaurant and Windjammer Cafe, with new concepts such as Sushi Bar and Sorrento’s Pizzeria. This transformation resulted in a remarkable increase in guest seating capacity in air-conditioned interior areas and higher efficiency in food and beverage serving.

Monarch of the Seas also received a new enlarged Conference Centre to fullfill the increased demand on conferencing facilities onboard cruise ships. This modernization was implemented as a replacement for Champagne Bar, Library and existing Conference Room.

In modernizing the whole ship, ALMACO converted the old Beauty Salon into Coffee Bar, similar to the ones RCI has onboard their Radiance class ships. ALMACO also refurbished the entire 1100-seat Main Show Theatre on Monarch.
